Assam: Zubeen Garg’s Biography to Be Integrated in Schools

The Assam Vidyaloi Siksha Parisad announced that a biography of Assam’s iconic musician Zubeen Garg will be integrated into the school curriculum, ensuring his legacy inspires students nationwide.

The declaration was made at Garg’s residence in Khalihipara, highlighting his profound influence on Assam’s cultural heritage.

The biography will be included in the Modern Indian Language (MIL) syllabus across 14 major Indian languages, enabling students, particularly Assam’s youth, to study the life and achievements of the celebrated singer.

In a parallel tribute, Gauhati University revealed that its Centre for Performing Arts and Culture will be renamed in Zubeen Garg’s honour, recognising his immense contributions to Assam’s music and cultural identity.

To further commemorate him, the university will install a statue of Garg at the centre’s entrance, serving as a lasting symbol of inspiration for students and artists.

A coffee table book chronicling his artistic journey and accomplishments will also be published.

Additionally, Gauhati University will introduce a “Zubeen’s Songs” category at its inter-college youth festival, encouraging young talents to perform his music and keep his artistic spirit alive.

It may be mentioned that Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52 in Singapore during a swimming mishap. He was in Singapore to attend the North East Festival.
