Assam’s Munmi Bora, a petrol pump worker, won gold at the 11th Senior National Lagori Sports Championship, held recently at AMET University in Tamil Nadu.

Guwahati: Assam’s Munmi Bora, works at the Swarna petrol pump in Khowang, Dibrugarh district won gold medal  at the 11th Senior National Lagori Sports Championship, held recently at AMET University in Tamil Nadu.

Munmi, a resident of Sapekhati Lakhimipam in Charaideo district, is the daughter of Mineswar Bora and Pratibha Bora. Despite working at petrol pump she has continued to pursue sports with dedication and discipline.

While talking to the media she stated that, “Players from districts including Charaideo, Baksa, Kamrup, Tamulpur, Guwahati and Bajali represented Assam in the championship.”

Following her gold medal win, Munmi’s achievement was celebrated by her colleagues at the Swarna Oil petrol pump and social worker Parag Dutta felicitated her at her workplace with a gamosa and Jaapi.

Expressing his happiness, he stated that “I felt extremely happy after hearing this news, so I came here to meet her. She is truly an inspiration. Despite working at a petrol pump, she managed to achieve her dream and make Assam proud. Her journey encourages other girls to step out of their homes, believe in their dreams, and work towards them. If more girls follow her path, Assam will become even more progressive and empowered.”

Meanwhile, Munmi Bora has earlier showcased her talent in athletics as well. However, despite her national-level success has yet to receive recognition from any state government representative.
