BJP Accuses Congress of Reviving ‘Anti-Assam Forces’; CM Sarma Predicts 'Miya' Takeover if BJP Loses

At a press conference held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, BJP spokesperson Suranjan Dutta said that all “anti-Assam” elements had regrouped under the Congress banner. He named Assam Pradesh Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi as politicians “trying to mislead the people of Assam again with empty promises.” Dutta alleged that Akhil Gogoi, who once protested against Congress’s corruption, had “shamelessly joined hands with the same party for personal ambition.”

He said the AJP, formed on the promise of political independence, had “betrayed the 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation” by aligning with the Congress for power. Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s earlier statement, Dutta claimed that Congress would return “forest, satra, and government reserve land to illegal settlers of Bengali-origin Muslims” if voted to power. He also slammed Congress leader Priyank Kharge for saying Assamese people lacked capacity to build high-end industries like semiconductors. “These statements show Congress’s anti-Assam mindset,” Dutta said. “If Congress returns, Assam’s economy, culture, and politics will once again be surrendered to these forces.”

Later, addressing the media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made explosive remarks targeting Gaurav Gogoi. “Gaurav Gogoi is a Pakistani ISI agent. His entire family works like ISI agents, and we have several proofs,” CM Sarma alleged, further claiming that Gogoi’s wife Elizabeth Gogoi is a “full-time Pakistani agent.” CM Sarma said he had delayed the remark out of respect for the mourning over Zubeen Garg’s death, but now wanted to “reveal the truth.”

Accusing Gogoi of lacking courage to speak against terrorism, CM Sarma said, “After any incident, he waits till the end of the day to criticize only after seeking permission. After the Delhi blast, he didn’t condemn terrorism—he only expressed condolences.”

Issuing a political warning, the Chief Minister said, “The day BJP loses power, Miya Muslims will occupy Assam starting from Dispur. The Assamese people who curse BJP today will later realize what we were protecting them from. Forty percent of the population are encroachers, aggressive and undisciplined. If Congress comes to power, they will create demographic and social chaos.”

CM Sarma mocked the opposition alliance, saying, “Three Gogois are busy fixing one marriage. Let them focus on that while we continue serving the people. Their unity meeting was just to decide that wedding date.”

CM Sarma’s ‘ISI Agent’ Remark Triggers Political Storm in Assam; AIUDF, AJP, Congress Leaders Hit Back

The remarks triggered widespread backlash across the political spectrum. AIUDF MLA Rafikul Islam condemned the Chief Minister’s “disgraceful” statement, saying, “The people he calls ‘Miya’ fought the British for India’s freedom. Are all rapists Miya? Were the Titabar and Tinsukia rape cases in Assam committed by Miyas? He should answer that.”

Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “The Chief Minister’s Gogoi-centric politics is his own creation. We have united to uproot BJP’s corruption and protect Assam’s unity. Through agents like Tarsem Mittal and Siddhartha Sharma (one of the accused in Zubeen Garg death case), he is exploiting Assam’s art and culture. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has destroyed the dignity of the CM’s chair.” 

Referring to Zubeen Garg, Lurinjyoti added, “Zubeen da’s ideals were humanistic and above religion. The CM insulted those ideals. During his funeral, some ruling party people even tried to politicize his death. We warned him not to drag Zubeen da’s legacy into politics.”

Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed also launched a scathing counterattack, declaring, “Mahashoy Himanta Biswa Sarma, you will not remain king forever. It is essential for all opposition forces to unite to end Himanta Biswa Sarma’s dirty politics.”
