"Guwahati: A sessions court in Guwahati on Monday heard multiple petitions in connection with the death case of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg and scheduled March 2 for pronouncement of orders on the applications considered during the hearing.Advertisment Speaking to the media, Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar said several crucial pleas were taken up, including the defence request for soft copies of documents filed by the prosecution. “The defence sought soft copies of the documents, and we argued that providing such copies could lead to possible manipulation. However, the court directed submission of the documents, and the prosecution is ready to comply with the court"s order,” Kamar said. He said a major petition seeking the Singapore coroner"s report was also heard, with the prosecution opposing the plea. “We argued under Sections 4 and 5 of the IPC that if an Indian national commits a crime abroad, it is treated as a crime committed in India. The accused are Indian citizens, and we submitted that the conspiracy was hatched in Guwahati and executed in Singapore. The court has noted our arguments and will deliver its order on March 2,” he added. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) sought seizure of accused Siddharth Sharma"s sealed flat, alleging it was purchased using misappropriated funds belonging to Zubeen Garg. The prosecution informed the court that Siddharth, who allegedly earned Rs 50,000–60,000 per month, had taken a 20-year home loan but repaid it within six years, raising questions about the source of funds. A forensic financial analysis reportedly indicated that cash deposits were routed through his girlfriend"s bank account to his family members. The prosecution opposed the defence plea for the Singapore coroner"s report, arguing that it falls under Singapore"s legal jurisdiction and is not directly linked to the Assam Police investigation. The special government advocate urged the court to reject the application. The court also heard petitions filed by accused Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma regarding seizure of assets, de-freezing of bank accounts, and properties linked to Siddharth, including the Mahabir Aqua project and his residential flat. Zubeen Garg"s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, was present in court and expressed frustration over delays in the proceedings. “The defence lawyers are deliberately trying to prolong the proceedings. There appears to be a conspiracy to delay the case. The hearing was scheduled for 10 am, but it was pushed to 12:30 pm. At this pace, how will justice be delivered?” she said. She added: “It has been five months, and we are entering the sixth month. We have repeatedly demanded the formation of a special court for this case.” It is to be noted that the Kamrup Metropolitan district and sessions judge began hearing the matter around noon.
