However, even as the arrests were announced, questions continue to hang over the weapon used during the incident, with police yet to offer a clear explanation.AdvertismentSpeaking to the media at Fatashil Ambari Police Station, DCP Numal Mahatta said four suspects were picked up from Bhella in Barpeta district in the early hours of Wednesday. After hours of questioning, police said two of them were found to have a direct role in the Ganeshpara dacoity. The arrested men have been identified as Ratul Malick (37) and Jeherul Hoque (25), both residents of Bhella. Police claim the two are part of a six-member gang that has been active in different parts of the city.According to investigators, the duo were not just present during the crime but played a key role behind the scenes — from surveying the area beforehand to arranging vehicles for the gang’s movement. Officers also alleged that the two initially tried to throw the investigation off track by speaking in Hindi, despite being locals.Gun Recovery Leaves Unanswered QuestionsDuring the arrest operation, police recovered a pistol from near the Garbhanga road area. Officials said the weapon was an air pistol. However, CCTV footage from the dacoity — now circulating — appears to show the accused wielding what looks like a real firearm. The apparent mismatch between the recovered weapon and the visuals has raised eyebrows. So far, police have not explained whether the air pistol is the same weapon seen in the footage or if another firearm was used and is yet to be recovered. Forensic examination of the seized pistol is awaited.Four Still at LargeWhile two arrests have been made, four other members of the gang remain untraced. Police teams are conducting raids at multiple locations, and officials say the hunt is ongoing. The arrested accused were taken for medical examination and will be produced before a court, where police are expected to seek custody for further questioning.Another Robbery Deepens ConcernMeanwhile, the case has gained urgency after a fresh burglary incident was reported in Ganeshpara within 48 hours of the earlier incident. This time, the target was the chamber of senior advocate Prabin Kumar Kalita at Deveswar Swargiary Path. Miscreants allegedly broke into the chamber and fled with a laptop, cash and important documents. The police said that the investigations in both cases are continuing and insist that efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects and determine whether the two crimes are linked. Also Read: White Swift, Black Masks, Zero Fear: Armed Gang Runs Riot in Guwahati's GaneshparaAdvertismentAdvertisment Read the Next Article
