Guwahati: The Dispur Police have recovered the pistol allegedly used by Vedik Modi, son of retired District Commissioner Bibhash Modi, following a late-night incident in Ganeshguri.

However, police officials have stated that it is yet to be conclusively confirmed whether the weapon is a real firearm. Earlier, Vedik Modi had claimed that the weapon in question was a toy pistol.

As per reports, the incident reportedly took place on Thursday night in Ganeshguri, where Vedik Modi allegedly created a scene of hooliganism while brandishing the pistol. He is accused of assaulting a young man identified as DK Basumatary on the road, striking him on the head with the weapon and causing injuries.

At present, Vedik Modi remains in the custody of Dispur Police.

Others in Custody

Along with him, the police have detained Wasim Akhtar, Diganta Haloi, Amit Bhowmik, Jitu Barman, Tanish Sharma, and Jyotishman Bora. None of the accused reportedly possessed a valid arms licence.

Police sources further revealed that Amit Bhowmik has multiple cases registered against him in different locations and was previously arrested in Shillong for alleged involvement in similar acts of hooliganism.

Allegations of Repeated Misconduct

Vedik Modi has also faced allegations of involvement in several previous incidents. Serious accusations have surfaced claiming that he misused his father’s former official position and financial influence to engage in acts of intimidation and hooliganism.

It is alleged that he often moved around with a group of youths and, with their support, carried out acts of intimidation not only in Guwahati but also in other parts of the state. There are also allegations that he used the pistol to threaten individuals on multiple occasions.

Sources claim that he was frequently under the influence of alcohol during such incidents.

In a significant development, after preliminary examination, the weapon used by Vedik Modi has reportedly been identified as a fake pistol.
