Home Minister Amit Shah to Arrive in Poll-Bound Assam Today

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a two-day visit to Assam beginning Friday, during which he is set to launch the Centre’s Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) and participate in key official engagements.

According to sources, Shah is expected to arrive around noon and proceed to the Natanpur border outpost in Cachar district. He will formally roll out the Vibrant Villages Programme at Natanpur village — a flagship initiative aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity and boosting livelihood opportunities in border areas. The Home Minister will also address a public gathering at the venue.

This will mark Shah’s third trip to Assam since late December, underlining the BJP leadership’s heightened focus on the poll-bound state. Assembly elections are expected to be held in March-April, with the ruling party seeking a third consecutive term in power across the state’s 126 constituencies.

Following his engagements in Cachar, Shah is scheduled to travel to Agartala before returning to Guwahati later in the evening.

On Saturday, he will attend the annual day parade of the Central Reserve Police Force at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex. He is also slated to lay the foundation stone for the new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion at Kasutoli in Sonapur.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a post on social media platform X, welcomed the Home Minister’s visit, stating that several development initiatives would be dedicated to the people of Assam during the tour.

With senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making frequent visits in recent weeks, political activity in Assam has intensified ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
