The dismissal comes in connection with an alleged misappropriation of Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds and accumulation of unexplained wealth. According to official sources, the department has framed 12 charges against the officer after a detailed scrutiny of her financial records.

Notably, this is the second such dismissal in the case, as Sharmistha Borah was earlier removed from service on identical charges, indicating a wider probe into the alleged scam.

Disproportionate Assets Under Scanner

As per the findings, Sukanya Borah is alleged to have accumulated assets worth ₹1,23,74,814, which are said to be grossly disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Records indicate that since 2015, her total salary earnings amount to approximately ₹50 lakh. However, investigations revealed that assets worth around ₹40 lakh were allegedly not disclosed in her mandatory immovable property returns.

Furthermore, officials stated that none of the questioned properties were reflected in her asset declarations submitted for the financial years 2020, 2021, and 2022, raising serious concerns over deliberate concealment.

Details of Assets Identified

The inquiry reportedly found that Sukanya Borah owned high-value land and property in multiple locations across Assam, including the state capital Guwahati, along with luxury flats in prime areas.

In addition, she allegedly owned several high-end vehicles, including:

  • Honda City (Registration No. AS01EN 8320) valued at ₹16.50 lakh

  • Tata Harrier (Registration No. AS01EM 9920) valued at ₹17.58 lakh

  • Honda Brio (Registration No. AS01BX 6644) valued at ₹5.32 lakh

  • Other SUV-class vehicles

Official Action and Next Steps

Following the completion of departmental proceedings, the government decided to dismiss Sukanya Borah from service, citing serious misconduct, financial impropriety, and violation of service rules.

Officials confirmed that further legal action is likely, and the case may be pursued under relevant anti-corruption and criminal statutes.

The development is being seen as a strong message against corruption within the administrative machinery, as the state government continues its crackdown on financial irregularities involving public servants.
