Speaking publicly, Thogiran Gogoi, the martyr’s father, said any individual found acting against the nation’s interests must be held accountable irrespective of their identity or position. He stressed that matters involving a country viewed as an adversary should be treated with seriousness and examined by the Central government.

Duluprabha Gogoi, the captain’s mother, also expressed strong disapproval of the reported visit. She said public representatives should remain focused on serving Assam and the country, adding that she expected Gogoi to follow the legacy of his father, former chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Recalling her son’s sacrifice during the Kargil conflict, she said any association with Pakistan is emotionally difficult for her to accept.

The controversy gained momentum after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Gogoi’s alleged links to Pakistan would be revised and forwarded to the Centre for further investigation.

The row intensified after Gogoi acknowledged during a press conference that he had travelled to Rawalpindi in 2012. Sarma subsequently cited SIT findings and alleged connections involving Gogoi, his British wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, and Pakistani policy expert Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.

Responding to the allegations, Gogoi said the visit was professional and lawful. He explained that his wife had travelled to Pakistan in 2012 for an international climate project and that he accompanied her shortly after their marriage. According to him, the trip complied with all visa norms and was known to the authorities.

He further clarified that any bank account linked to the assignment was temporary and closed after the project ended. Rejecting claims of wrongdoing, Gogoi accused the chief minister of politicising personal matters and urged the Supreme Court of India to take suo motu cognisance of what he described as the public disclosure of his children’s details.
