Priyanka Gandhi Slams Himanta Over Personal Attacks on Gaurav Gogoi

Guwahati: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his repeated personal attacks on Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi, calling such tactics “wrong politics.”

Speaking to the media after paying tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg at Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur, Vadra said it was unacceptable to drag political leaders’ families and children into public debates.

“There are two kinds of leaders in politics — those who practice constructive politics, and those who resort to polarisation. Gaurav Gogoi represents politics of love, and that is why he is being targeted. But personal attacks against him and his family are completely wrong,” Vadra said.

The Wayanad MP urged the Chief Minister to focus on issues affecting the people of Assam rather than engaging in personal allegations. “The government should prioritize concerns of the youth and women of the state who are seeking employment,” she added.

On questions regarding alleged accumulation of assets by the Chief Minister, Vadra claimed the public was already aware of these matters. “People are watching closely. They are weary of seeing state resources directed toward big industrialists and a single family. Corruption is rising, and this is a betrayal of public trust,” she alleged.

Vadra clarified that her visit to Zubeen Kshetra was purely to honor the late singer and had no political motive. “Zubeen Garg was respected across political lines. His cremation ground is a sacred place and should not be used for political gain,” she said.
