A visitor from Delhi, who witnessed the extraordinary sight during an early morning safari, described it as “a vision straight out of a fairy tale.”

Albino deer are extremely rare animals, characterized by snow-white fur and pink eyes — traits caused by a genetic condition that prevents natural melanin production. Their bright, pigment-less appearance makes them strikingly visible against Kaziranga’s lush green backdrop, turning any sighting into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Delhi tourist, overwhelmed by the experience, said:

“It was a wonderful experience for me. We could spot several one-horned rhinos at the national park, and the best thing was that we saw a hornbill. We also saw an albino deer, which is very rare. Our guide told us this is the only one of its kind in the park, so it was truly a rare experience.”

This rare encounter has infused new magic into the ongoing tourist season. Visitors continue to soak in Kaziranga’s unmatched natural beauty — from the iconic Big Five that include the one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, wild buffaloes, deer species, and the Bengal tiger, to the countless species of birds and reptiles that enrich the park’s vibrant ecosystem.

Although overall tourist footfall hasn’t matched the surge seen in November last year, both domestic and international travellers have been deeply appreciative of Kaziranga’s enchanting wilderness. For many, the unexpected sighting of the albino deer is becoming the defining highlight of their visit — a reminder of the rare and wondrous secrets that thrive in Assam’s wild paradise.
