The rampant piracy of the Assamese blockbuster Roi Roi Binale, starring the late music legend Zubeen Garg, has triggered widespread outrage across Assam’s cultural community. The producers of the film, along with Zubeen’s fan clubs and state authorities, have condemned the act as a severe blow to Assamese cinema.

Speaking on the issue, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep concern and warned of strict measures.

“The government will take stern action against anyone involved in film piracy. If you witness such acts, immediately inform the nearest police station,” the CM stated.
He further added that he is aware of the situation and has directed the police to act swiftly upon complaints. “We condemn such activities and will ensure the culprits face consequences,” Sarma said.

Earlier, the film’s producers, Director Rajesh Bhuyan and Producer Shyamantak Gautam, addressed a press conference at Zeal Creations, Ambikagiri Nagar, Guwahati. They revealed that Roi Roi Binale—which released on October 31—was uploaded illegally on various online platforms within days of its release.

“We initially ignored when only short clips were shared, but now the entire film has been leaked. We can no longer remain silent,” they said.

Following this, FIRs had been lodged in Duliajan, Tezpur, and Dispur, and the team is working closely with the Crime Branch to identify those responsible. Several YouTube channels have been flagged for uploading pirated versions of the movie.

Director Rajesh Bhuyan called the act a “betrayal of a 19-year dream,” lamenting how cultural creators are being “used like footballs by the public.”

“The dream we have been nurturing for 19 years has been destroyed. Is this your tribute to Zubeen? Is this how you respect him?” he questioned.

The filmmakers compared the piracy to “cutting up and selling a nine-day-old baby,” calling it an unforgivable crime against art.
They also criticized a section of viewers who, instead of supporting Assamese cinema, encourage piracy while glorifying films from other regions.

“By pirating our films, you are destroying Assamese culture. Thieves of cows are thieves, thieves of cinema are thieves too,” Bhuyan remarked sharply.

It may be mentioned that Zubeen Garg’s fan clubs, comprising over 3,000 active members, have joined the anti-piracy movement, working tirelessly to report and remove pirated content from social media.

In another major development, the Assamese singers’ community has announced a grand musical tribute to Zubeen Garg.
On November 19, at Chandmari Field, more than 200 singers—both senior and new-generation artists—will perform around 40 of Zubeen Garg’s iconic songs in a special event titled "Zubeen Jonak Kothaloi Suror Arghya".

The announcement was made during a press conference by members of the singers’ community, who said the programme will be a heartfelt homage to the legendary artist.

Despite the challenges, Roi Roi Binale continues to draw large crowds even ten days after release. However, as the filmmakers assert, the piracy issue threatens not just one film but the integrity of Assamese cultural expression itself.
