Pradip Baruah, the Editor and Publisher of the widely read Assamese magazine 'Prantik', passed away today (14 January 2026) at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 88 and had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for the past several days.

Baruah was a towering figure in Assamese journalism and literature, best known for steering Prantik into one of the most influential literary and cultural magazines in the state. Under his leadership, the publication became a nurturing ground for emerging writers, thinkers, and creative voices, significantly shaping contemporary Assamese writing.

A veteran journalist, Baruah was honoured with several prestigious awards over his long career, including the Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjya Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature and journalism. His editorial vision, commitment to intellectual discourse, and unwavering dedication to quality journalism earned him deep respect across literary and media circles.

Pradip Baruah was the youngest son of the late Radha Govinda Baruah, founder of The Assam Tribune Group of Publications. He was also the brother of noted personalities Tirtha Govinda Baruah and the late Prafulla Govinda Baruah, who passed away only a few days earlier.
