A young man was left seriously injured after being attacked with a blade in Guwahati’s Narengi area late on Sunday night, police said.

The incident occurred around 9 PM near Kenduguri when Rakesh Roy, a resident of the area, intervened to stop a woman from being allegedly harassed by a drug-addicted youth, identified as Bikash Das.

Angered by the intervention, Das allegedly attacked Roy with a blade, inflicting 15 deep cuts and leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Roy and rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Following the attack, Roy lodged a formal complaint at Noonmati Police Station, and the police subsequently arrested Bikash Das and recovered the weapon used in the assault.

Das has been sent to judicial custody.

The incident has created concern among Narengi residents, highlighting growing anxieties over public safety in the area.
