Arijit Singh Performs First Live Show in Kolkata After Quitting Playback Singing

Singer Arijit Singh recently performed live in Kolkata, just days after announcing that he is stepping away from playback singing. Videos and photos from the concert quickly went viral on social media.

The show was held at Kolkata’s Netaji Indoor Stadium on Sunday. He joined Anoushka Shankar and Bickram Ghosh for a 20-minute set, addressing the crowd. The singer admitted to the audience. “I am very nervous. Thank you for having me”.

During the concert, Arijit performed 'Maya Bhora Raati' with Anoushka Shankar and percussionist Bickram Ghosh. The song is a classic Bengali track, originally sung by Lakshmi Shankar and composed by the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar. Arijit also spoke about visiting Anoushka at her home and creating music together.

The singer later performed 'Traces of You', a song by Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones, as a duet with Anoushka. Fans were deeply moved by his performance. Many shared emotional reactions online, saying they missed his voice and got goosebumps listening to him live.

Arijit’s Announcement About Quitting Playback Singing

Earlier, on January 27, Arijit announced that he would no longer accept new playback singing projects. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he thanked his fans for supporting him throughout his career and called his journey as a playback singer “wonderful.”

Apart from being a singer, Arijit is also a composer, music producer, and instrumentalist. He first came into the spotlight after participating in the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. He made his Bollywood playback debut in 2011 with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2. His big breakthrough came in 2013 with Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2.

Over the years, Arijit has given many memorable songs such as Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Raabta, Kesariya, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Tera Yaar Hoon Main, and Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage.
