A Wedding in 10 Days, A Life Lost Overnight — What Drove Ritumoni to the Edge?

A young journalist, Ritumoni Roy, was found dead inside the Christian Basti office of the digital news portal Sach The Reality on Monday morning, triggering shock across Guwahati’s media fraternity.

The Guwahati Police suspect suicide, though multiple angles are being examined.

Roy, a resident of Kahilipara in the city, worked at the English and Hindi desk of the portal. She had reportedly arrived for duty on the evening of November 23 but did not return home afterward. Her body was discovered the next morning on the third floor of Purboday Building where the office is located.

A Short Note Found at the Scene

A brief note recovered from the spot stated:

“A decision made for everyone’s good. Stay happy, all of you… Sorry.”

Owner’s Statement From Abroad — As Quoted by Pratidin Time

A local media organisation Pratidin Time had a telephonic conversation with the portal owner Shubham Agarwal from Azerbaijan, who had reportedly expressed deep shock and recounted details based on CCTV footage he accessed remotely.

Agarwal told Pratidin Time that Ritumoni appeared to follow her usual routine upon entering the office—placing her bag down and preparing her workspace—before stepping onto a chair placed over a table. He said she used a rope-like shawl she had brought with her.

According to him, the CCTV showed she struggled for several minutes before the act was completed.
“It was extremely painful to watch,” Agarwal was quoted as saying by Pratidin Time.

“Exceptionally Dedicated Employee,” Says Owner

In his comments to Pratidin Time, Agarwal described Ritumoni as “an exceptionally dedicated employee,” adding that she had once been honoured as the best performer in the office.

“She was very hardworking and always professional,” he said.

He further told Pratidin Time that her marriage was fixed for December 5, and that the office had already received the invitation card.

“It is shocking to learn that she died by suicide at the office itself,” he added.

Owner Claims She Had Mentioned Mild Stress

Agarwal also said—again quoted by Pratidin Time—that he had once asked Ritumoni if she was under pressure. According to him, she mentioned minor stress related to her upcoming wedding and occasional pain due to gallbladder stones but did not indicate anything serious.

He emphasised that the office functioned strictly professionally and that there was “no personal relationship, only professional engagement,” Pratidin Time reported.

Investigation Intensifies

Agarwal informed Pratidin Time that he had instructed the editor to immediately file an FIR and urged a full police investigation.
“My scheduled return is on November 28. I am trying to return as soon as possible,” he said.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage, call records, and digital footprints. Statements from colleagues, friends, and family are being recorded to determine what led to the incident.
