The blaze is believed to have started around midnight, though the exact cause remains unclear. Flames rapidly spread across every floor, creating a terrifying situation for firefighters and onlookers.

Several offices of the State Bank of India (SBI) located inside the complex were among the worst affected.

Officials fear documents, cash, and assets worth crores of rupees have been reduced to ashes. Employees and security personnel were unable to retrieve any records, valuables, or equipment before the fire intensified.

At least 12 to 15 fire tenders rushed to the spot and battled the inferno for nearly five to six hours before finally bringing it under control early Tuesday morning.

No casualties have been reported so far, as the incident occurred after business hours. However, the extent of financial and material damage is expected to be enormous.

Police and fire officials have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Senior district administration officials visited the site to oversee rescue and assessment operations.

Sohum Emporia, one of the city’s prominent shopping and commercial hubs, now stands heavily charred, with thick plumes of smoke still rising from the building hours after the flames were doused, officials said.
