Guwahati Police have confirmed that she died by suicide, raising uncomfortable questions about unseen pressures young professionals silently face today.

The incident took place on the third floor of Purvoday Building, where she routinely worked. A brief suicide note recovered from the spot mentioned: “eta xidhdhant hokolu’r xukhor babe,” followed by “bhalei thakiba hokolu moi obihone” and a phone number with “SORRY.”

It was a short note—perhaps too short for the magnitude of her decision.

A Routine Workday Followed by a Sudden Turn

CCTV footage shows Ritumoni worked normally from 7 AM to 3 PM, returned to her rented room in Hatigaon, and later stepped out again to attend a friend’s wedding dinner.

She left the friend’s house at 10:30 PM, telling them she was heading home. But instead, she went back to her office and entered around midnight using her keys.

Within minutes, she took her own life.

The sequence raises concerns about what might have weighed on her—professionally or personally—despite her upcoming marriage on December 5, for which she had personally completed the arrangements. Her family in Kahilipara remains devastated and says they noticed no warning signs.

Living Alone, Working Under Pressure?

Ritumoni had been living separately in a rented room, despite her parents living in the city. While staying independently is common among young professionals, police and family members are now questioning whether isolation, stress, or hidden personal issues contributed to her mental state.

These are reflections many in the media fraternity are uncomfortable admitting openly, yet they remain crucial.

The Critical 1.5-Hour Gap

The missing period between 10:30 PM and 12:00 AM is now the focus of the investigation.
Police are examining whether she met anyone, returned somewhere, or faced a situation that pushed her toward an irreversible decision.

This gap may hold answers—not only to her death—but also to the silent emotional battles that young journalists frequently face while juggling deadlines, unstable job environments, and personal responsibilities.

Police Investigation Continues

Police have recorded statements from her family and friends and are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Officers say only a detailed investigation will reveal the circumstances that led to her death.

What is clear, however, is that the loss of a promising young journalist—just days before one of the most important milestones of her life—raises deeper questions about the unseen stresses today’s youth confront behind seemingly normal lives.
