The newly inducted fleet includes four mechanised sweeping machines, 50 auto tippers, seven suction machines and 14 dump tanks. Officials said the addition will significantly scale up mechanised street cleaning, solid waste collection and drainage maintenance, helping the civic body respond more efficiently to the city’s growing sanitation needs.

The fleet was flagged off by Jayanta Malla Baruah, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, in the presence of Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Deputy Mayor Smita Roy, members-in-charge, councillors and senior officials of the corporation. GMC Commissioner Chinmoy Prakash Phukoon and Additional Commissioner Dr Dhruba Jyoti Hazarika were also present at the event.

According to GMC, the new equipment would help ensure quicker waste removal, reduce manual intervention and improve overall operational efficiency. The move is expected to strengthen routine sanitation work, particularly in densely populated areas and major road corridors.

The initiative forms part of GMC’s broader efforts to modernise urban services and aligns with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, with the civic body reiterating its commitment to building a cleaner and healthier Guwahati.
