According to sources, the trio had been sneaking into the auditorium premises by cutting through the boundary fencing, attempting to steal electric cables and other construction materials from the site.

The arrested women have been identified as Monura Begum (40), Ajirul Nessa (27), and Ruhima Begum (25). Police said the gang had targeted the auditorium at least three times in recent weeks. On Thursday, alert security personnel caught the trio attempting another theft and handed them over to authorities.

After examining CCTV footage, Dispur Police confirmed the identities of the accused. Following interrogation, the women were formally arrested and produced before the court on Friday.

Sources revealed that all three accused had previously served jail terms for similar theft-related cases. The construction firm overseeing the project, Ahaluwalia Construction, had lodged a complaint with Dispur Police after earlier incidents of theft.

The auditorium, inaugurated just two months ago, is yet to be formally handed over to the state government and remains under the supervision of the construction company. Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
