Traffic Restrictions Announced in Guwahati Ahead of Air Force Day Flypast

The city is expected to witness heavy traffic movement and large gatherings, including the presence of VIPs and dignitaries, during the main event and rehearsals on November 5, 6, and 8.

The Guwahati Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the Indian Air Force Day Flypast scheduled to take place on November 9 at Lachit Ghat, Panbazar.

The city is expected to witness heavy traffic movement and large gatherings, including the presence of VIPs and dignitaries, during the main event and rehearsals on November 5, 6, and 8.

According to an official press release issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), a series of traffic restrictions, diversions, and parking regulations will be enforced to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety in and around the event venue.

Restrictions (Effective November 8 and 9, from 7 AM to 5 PM):

Movement of commercial goods-carrying vehicles and other heavy vehicles will be prohibited on H.B. Road, A.T. Road, D.G. Road, M.G. Road, B. Baruah Road, and G.N.B. Road. Slow-moving vehicles, including handcarts, rickshaws, and e-rickshaws, will not be allowed to ply between Machkhowa Point and the Chief Justice’s Bungalow Point on M.G. Road during this period.

Only vehicles with car passes issued and distributed by the Indian Air Force will be allowed to ply between Machkhowa Point and the Chief Justice’s Bungalow Point from 11 AM to 5 PM on both days.

City buses coming from the Khanapara side towards Bharalumukh will be diverted through G.S. Road–A.T. Road–Athgaon Flyover and will not be allowed to take a turn towards Panbazar through the ROB.

No heavy vehicle, including inter-district buses and ASTC-operated rural service buses (except city buses), coming from Jalukbari will be allowed to enter the city. These vehicles will be diverted via NH-27 at Jalukbari. However, traffic will be allowed to ply on both sides of H.B. Road.

Diversions:

All vehicles, including city buses, coming from Bharalumukh towards Panbazar or Chandmari will be diverted at Machkhowa via the elevated corridor towards H.B. Road or A.T. Road. Vehicles proceeding towards Chandmari or Latasil via H.B. Road will take a left turn at N.B. Hall (Sessions Court) Point and move through F.C. Road.

Similarly, vehicles coming from the Chandmari side towards Panbazar, Bharalumukh, or Jalukbari will be diverted at District Library Point towards A.T. Road via Panbazar ROB (South). Light vehicles from Uzanbazar or Latasil heading towards Bharalumukh will be diverted at Planetarium Point through Lamb Road, F.C. Road, Tayebulla Point, G.N.B. Road, and District Library before taking a left at N.B. Hall Point.

Parking Regulations:

Vehicles bearing Red, Blue, or Yellow passes issued by the Indian Air Force will be permitted to park only in designated parking slots.

No Parking Zones:

Parking will be strictly prohibited on M.G. Road, F.A. Road, B.R.P. Road, M.L.N. Road, A.R.B. Road, H.B. Road, and T.R.P. Road. Additionally, no truck or heavy commercial vehicle will be allowed to park on T.R.P. Road, Lakhi Gali, Chamber Road, SRCB Road, S.S. Road, Kedar Road, or M.S. Road between 7 AM and 5 PM on November 8 and 9.

The Guwahati Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to cooperate and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the rehearsals and the main Air Force Day Flypast event.
