Officials in Dhaka confirmed that a special diplomatic note has been formally dispatched to New Delhi, pressing India to return both leaders to face trial.

The move follows the recent verdict delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh, which sentenced Hasina and Kamal to death in a genocide case.

Sources said Bangladesh intensified its diplomatic outreach shortly after the tribunal pronounced its judgment, initiating a new round of communication with the Indian government through established diplomatic channels.

The interim administration maintains that both individuals must be brought back under international and bilateral protocols to face the legal consequences of the charges against them.

India has yet to issue an official response to the latest extradition request. However, observers say the development could add significant strain to the traditionally close ties between the two neighbours.
