Top ULFA (I) Leader Returns to Mainstream

Dahotia, who commanded ULFA (I)’s 779 Battalion and simultaneously served as the outfit’s General Secretary and Finance Secretary, is among the highest-ranking insurgent leaders to rejoin the mainstream in recent years.

According to security sources, he surrendered before a joint team of Assam Police and the Assam Rifles following sustained counter-insurgency operations in the region. The surrender reportedly took place in the presence of senior officers, though no official statement has yet been issued by either the security forces or the Assam Police.

Brought From Myanmar via Pangsau Pass

Reliable sources indicate that Dahotia was brought from Myanmar through the Pangsau Pass before being formally handed over to security forces for his surrender.

Following the surrender, Dahotia was reportedly moved to New Delhi for discussions concerning a possible Ceasefire Agreement between the Government of India and ULFA (I). His return to the negotiation table is being seen as a significant step toward potential peace talks with the outfit’s remaining leadership.

Next Steps Under Review

Further verification is underway regarding the circumstances of Dahotia’s movement, the surrender process, and the possible roadmap for the next phase of peace negotiations.
