Pfoze formally stepped down from both primary and active membership of the NPF on Monday, citing personal reasons in his resignation letter to NPF president Apong Pongener.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma warmly welcomed Pfoze to the party via a post on X. “We are delighted to welcome Dr Lorho S. Pfoze, former Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur, to the National People’s Party,” Sangma wrote. “With his vast experience, deep insights, and strong support base in Manipur, Dr Pfoze will be a vital asset in furthering our mission of ‘One Voice, One North East.’”

Pfoze, a medical doctor by profession before entering politics, represented Outer Manipur in the 17th Lok Sabha (2019–2024) as an NPF member.

During his tenure, he contributed to several parliamentary committees, including those on Coal, Mines and Steel; Social Justice and Empowerment; Health and Family Welfare; and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

His exit from the NPF coincides with ongoing discussions about a possible merger between the NPF and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland, adding a layer of political significance to his departure.
