Manipur: Three Suspected NRFM Militants Arrested in Imphal East

A joint team of central and state security forces apprehended three suspected key members of the banned National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), a militant group, during operations conducted in Imphal East district, Manipur, on Monday.

A joint team of central and state security forces apprehended three suspected key members of the banned National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), a militant group, during operations conducted in Imphal East district, Manipur, on Monday.

As per reports, the arrested individuals, linked to recent extortion activities in the district, were detained with a .32 pistol, one magazine containing three live rounds, four mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card in their possession.

Officials stated that the first phase of the operation led to the arrest of Ningthoujam Yamba Singh, alias Boy and Sanayamba, aged 44, from Keirao Bitra Awang Leikai in Imphal East.

He was apprehended at his residence.

Following his interrogation, the security forces launched a second phase, resulting in the arrests of Nongmeikapam Naresh Meitei, 38, and Yumnam Tejkumar Singh, alias Bobo, 48, both residents of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), also previously known as the United Revolutionary Front (URF), is a banned insurgent outfit operating primarily in the Indian state of Manipur. It is classified as a militant group involved in separatist activities, extortion, and violence, particularly in the Manipur Valley region.
