Manipur Police Nab Two Drug Smugglers with 2kg Heroin Worth Rs 2 Crore En Route to Nagaland

A special operations unit of the Manipur Police thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt on Tuesday, apprehending two interstate peddlers and seizing nearly 2 kilograms of brown sugar.

Imphal: A special operations unit of the Manipur Police thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt on Tuesday, apprehending two interstate peddlers and seizing nearly 2 kilograms of brown sugar—a potent heroin derivative valued at around Rs 2 crore in the illicit market.

Acting on credible intelligence about anti-social elements smuggling narcotics from Manipur to Nagaland via National Highway 102, the team conducted a swift interception at the Sekmai Pangaltabi stretch under Sekmai police station limits in Imphal West district, bordering Kangpokpi.

During the raid in the afternoon, officers flagged down a suspicious vehicle and recovered four large packets containing approximately 2 kg of the contraband. The smuggling car was also impounded as evidence.

The suspects were identified as Md. Mustakim, 28, from Lilong Lou Manga in Thoubal district, and Umar Khan, 30, from Lilong Chingkham Maning in the same district.

A formal FIR has been lodged at Sekmai police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023. Investigators are now pursuing leads to nab additional accomplices and trace the drug supply chain's origins.
