Manipur: Two Suspected RPF/PLA Members Arrested in Anti-Insurgency Crackdown

Manipur Police and central security forces apprehended two individuals believed to be linked to the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and its armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), police said on Monday.

In a coordinated anti-insurgency operation across Imphal Valley districts, Manipur Police and central security forces apprehended two individuals believed to be linked to the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and its armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), police said on Monday.

According to police statements, the suspects were allegedly involved in recruiting youths, extorting money from schools, colleges, and local businesses, and tracking the movements of security personnel to share intelligence with their organisation in the valley districts.

In the first phase of the operation, security forces arrested Khangembam Manglemba Singh, alias Sunny, a 46-year-old self-styled Lieutenant of the RPF/PLA, from Ningthoukhong Ward No. 2 under Bishnupur Police Station in Bishnupur district. Singh hails from Kumbi Thana Leikai, Bishnupur.

In a subsequent operation, the joint team detained Khumukcham Biren Meitei, alias Dhiren, a 40-year-old RPF/PLA cadre from Kumbi Terakhong Makha Leikai Ward No. 8, currently residing in Keirenphabi Maning Leikai Ward No. 7.

Meanwhile, the RPF/PLA, through a press release issued by its Assistant Secretary for Publicity, Bangkim, denied any association with two other individuals, Thangjam Abung Meetei, 31, of Leirongthel Pitta, Thoubal district (also residing in Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East), and Naorem Priyobarta, alias Tamo, 27, of Kakching Wairi Sabal Leikai.

The police reported that these two were arrested on October 3, 2025, at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai, along with a .45 GLOCK pistol, a four-wheeler, Rs. 1,26,900 in cash, and an arms license.

The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by security forces to curb insurgency activities in Manipur, with investigations continuing to uncover further details about the suspects’ operations.
