PM Modi Condemns Shoe Attack on CJI Gavai in Supreme Court

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned an unprecedented attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, where an elderly lawyer threw a shoe at him during a Supreme Court proceeding earlier today.

The incident, which PM Modi described as "utterly condemnable," sparked widespread outrage across the nation.

In a conversation with CJI Gavai this evening, PM Modi expressed solidarity, stating, "The attack on him in the Supreme Court premises has angered every Indian. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society."

He also praised the Chief Justice for his composure, noting his calm response in the face of the incident.

The shoe, thrown during a court session, missed the bench where CJI Gavai was seated alongside Justice K Vinod Chandran.

Security personnel swiftly apprehended the lawyer and removed him from the courtroom. Undeterred, CJI Gavai urged court officials to remain focused, saying, "Don't get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me," before resuming proceedings.

The incident has raised concerns about courtroom decorum and security, with the Prime Minister’s remarks underscoring the gravity of the breach and the nation’s support for the judiciary.
