Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma Distributes Financial Aid to 2,000 Farmers Under FOCUS+

Shillong: Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday distributed financial assistance cheques to nearly 2,000 new beneficiaries under the FOCUS+ scheme during a programme held in Resubelpara.

The initiative, aimed at strengthening the farming community and improving rural livelihoods, forms part of the Meghalaya government’s broader efforts to empower farmers and boost agricultural productivity across the state.

Sharing details of the programme on the social media platform X, Sangma said the FOCUS+ scheme goes beyond merely offering financial assistance and is designed to enable farmers to improve their incomes and expand their collective strength through producer groups.

“Through FOCUS+, we are not merely extending financial assistance; we are empowering our farmers to enhance their incomes, strengthen producer groups, and lead meaningful change at the grassroots level,” the chief minister said.

He noted that the scheme seeks to promote resilience and self-reliance among farmers while encouraging sustainable economic growth in rural communities. According to Sangma, such initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods and ensuring long-term support for the agricultural sector.

Highlighting the state’s approach towards farmer welfare, Sangma stated that the Meghalaya government was the first in the country to introduce a dedicated welfare programme exclusively aimed at supporting farmers.

“This initiative is about building resilience, self-reliance, and sustainable growth within our farming communities. It reaffirms our commitment to a truly People First Government,” he said.

During the event, the chief minister also distributed cheques under the Green Meghalaya initiative to individuals and community members involved in protecting forests and conserving natural resources.

Sangma commended their efforts, emphasising that community participation plays a vital role in safeguarding the state’s ecological wealth and preserving its natural heritage.

The FOCUS+ programme is part of the state government’s wider strategy to strengthen rural economies, support farmers through financial assistance, and encourage sustainable agricultural practices across Meghalaya.
