NDA Finalises Seat-Sharing in Assam; Formal Announcement Likely Within Four Days, Says CM Sarma

Guwahati: Seat-sharing negotiations among ruling alliance partners in Assam have been completed, with a formal announcement expected within the next two to four days after approval from the central leadership, Chief MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said discussions among the allies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state had concluded following meetings with key regional partners.

According to the Chief Minister, negotiations with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), and the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Committee were finalised late on Wednesday night.

“Discussions with the Asom Gana Parishad, Bodoland People’s Front and the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Committee were concluded last night. From the NDA’s side, the seat-sharing negotiations have now been finalised,” CM Sarma said.

However, he added that the arrangement would be formally declared only after it receives approval from the alliance’s central leadership.

“The final proposal will now be placed before the Central Parliamentary Board for approval, after which a formal announcement will be made in two to four days,” Sarma stated.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also welcomed three suspended legislators from the Indian National Congress who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati.

The MLAs who switched allegiance include Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Basanta Das and Sashi Kanta Das.

“Three Congress MLAs have joined the BJP today, making it a significant day for our party. It shows the growing support for the BJP and the respect people have for Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sarma said.

The induction ceremony took place in the presence of Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, amid preparations by the ruling alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
