The issue surrounding the proposed relocation of 342 settlers from Them Ïew Mawlong, a locality in Shillong, Meghalaya, is a complex, decades-old conflict rooted in land ownership disputes, ethnic sensitivities, and urban development pressures. It centres on the Harijan Colony (also known as Punjabi Lane or Sweepers' Colony), a residential area primarily inhabited by Dalit Sikh families who have lived there for over 200 years.
