Joseph Lianthangpuia, from Chanakya Place in New Delhi, was detained in the national capital and booked under the Saitual Police Station Case No. 63/2025. He faces charges under Sections 21(c), 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act, as well as Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

The case stems from a dramatic interception on August 23, when police recovered 15 kg of high-grade heroin from a vehicle (MZ-01X-1909) near the India-Myanmar border. The car was being driven by 20-year-old Lalliancheua, son of Challianzula from Falam, Myanmar.

Investigators say the seizure exposed a sophisticated trafficking syndicate operating across the porous frontier.

The arrest follows another high-profile capture earlier this week: Lalchhuanthangi, a 50-year-old Aizawl resident suspected of being a major drug lord, was taken into custody in Delhi in a related operation.

Police sources indicate both cases are part of an intensified crackdown on drug networks exploiting Mizoram’s proximity to Myanmar’s opium-rich regions. Further interrogations are underway to dismantle the full chain.
