The accused has been identified as Kitoshi, also known as Lituna or Linokali. The arrest, prompted by reports on local YouTube news channels, led to a case being registered at East Police Station on Tuesday.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) and Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Dimapur Police, the seized notes were printed copies of the Rs 500 denomination, used by the accused to perpetrate fraud.

The PRO detailed the suspect’s method: she would initially provide three to five genuine Rs 500 notes to unsuspecting victims, presenting them as samples of counterfeit currency. After the victims tested these notes in the market and were convinced of their authenticity, they were persuaded to invest larger sums with promises of receiving double the amount in counterfeit notes.

The accused then delivered bundles of fake notes, hidden in opaque polyethene packets, instructing victims to open them only after a two-day delay, citing a supposed “chemical process” needed to enhance the notes’ quality. This delay allowed the suspect to flee before the victims discovered the deception.

Police have dismissed various allegations and counter-allegations circulating on media platforms, labelling them as misleading statements attributed to the accused.

Kitoshi is also wanted in connection with two separate cheating cases at Niuland and Diphupar police stations. Police now suspect she may be linked to additional fraud cases and have urged other victims to come forward with information.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting a thorough probe into the case, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend any accomplices involved in the scam.
