A classically trained folk and devotional singer, Maithili has long been the cultural face of Mithila, but her political debut has brought her into the local and national spotlight.

The announcement of her candidature transformed Alinagar’s narrow lanes into a hub of activity, with camera crews, party workers, and supporters flocking to witness her campaign. While many outside Bihar recognize her as a symbol of the state’s heritage, in Alinagar, she remains a fresh face in politics, earning curiosity, admiration, and cautious optimism from residents.

During a media interaction after early trends suggested her lead, Maithili reflected on her journey and ambitions:

“I am feeling very pleased after getting the poll updates and the support that the people are delivering to me, the love they have showered on me from day one of the campaigns. I never thought I would go through such a beautiful journey. The people have shown love not just for a candidate but for their daughter, and this will help me connect more closely with them. Many had said politics is a swamp and that I, being only 25, am not capable—but I am determined to prove myself. Singing is in my soul, and I will continue that alongside my new role. The next five years will be crucial; I will have to win the hearts of the people to sustain NDA’s support and break stereotypes about girls in music and politics.”

Cultural Identity Meets Politics

Maithili’s campaign in the Bihar polls has strongly emphasized Mithila’s cultural and religious roots. She has proposed renaming Alinagar to Sitanagar, honoring Goddess Sita, who holds deep significance in the region. The move has resonated with voters and aligns with Hindutva narratives, highlighting her ability to blend cultural identity with political strategy.

Her campaign has also attracted young, urban voters online, especially Gen Z audiences, while building trust among first-time voters in the constituency. Maithili credited the NDA, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bolstering her appeal, noting that her campaign faced negative PR stunts, yet the ground response was overwhelmingly positive.

As Maithili prepares for her potential term as one of Bihar’s youngest MLAs, her journey marks a striking combination of youth, cultural heritage, and political ambition, promising an active and people-focused tenure in Alinagar.
