Nitin Nabin Takes Charge as BJP's Youngest National President

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Nabin formally assumed office as the party's national president on Tuesday, succeeding senior party leader JP Nadda.

He was officially named the party president at a ceremony held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

Nabin took charge in the presence of several top leaders of the BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former president J.P. Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, as well as various chief ministers, national office-bearers, state unit presidents, and members of the national executive.

Nabin was elected unopposed as the 12th national president after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded on Monday with no rival candidates.

BJP National Returning Officer K Laxman announced late on Monday that only Nabin's name remained following the withdrawal period, confirming his selection by consensus.

At 45 years old, Nitin Nabin became the youngest person to lead the BJP, surpassing the previous record held by Nitin Gadkari. A five-term MLA from the Bankipur constituency in Patna, one of the party's strongest urban seats in Bihar, Nabin currently serves as the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister in the Bihar government.

Hailing from a prominent political family, Nabin is the son of veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Sinha, who passed away in 2006.

He entered active politics thereafter, beginning his journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student wing and later rising through the ranks of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), where he served as national general secretary and Bihar state president from 2016 to 2019.

Nabin played a pivotal role in the BJP's impressive turnaround in Chhattisgarh, accurately forecasting the party's 2023 assembly election victory and contributing to its robust performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
