Shah Ramps Up Bengal Pitch: Citizenship Promise for Hindu Refugees, Tough Talk on Infiltration

Kolkata: Taking a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over infiltration issues, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that no Hindu refugee would lose citizenship.

Addressing a public rally Mathurapur in South 24 Parganas, Shah assured Hindu refugees from Bangladesh that they need not worry about losing citizenship.

“Had Mamata Banerjee not opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act, every Hindu refugee from Bangladesh would have already received citizenship. I want to assure all Hindu refugees that the BJP government stands with you, and not a single refugee will lose their citizenship,” Shah said.

Amit Shah also promised to implement the Seventh Pay Commission for state government employees within 45 days of a BJP government taking office and to fill all vacant government posts by December this year.

Senior BJP leader Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Mamata Banerjee and her party, the All India Trinamool Congress, accusing the state government of failing to check infiltration in West Bengal. 

Referring to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Shah claimed that only names were currently being struck off the voter list. “At the moment, only names are being deleted from the rolls, and Mamata Didi seems uneasy. Once the Bharatiya Janata Party forms the government, we will identify and remove every infiltrator from West Bengal,” he asserted. 

Expanding his criticism, Shah accused Banerjee of appeasing illegal entrants from Bangladesh and neglecting the promotion of major cultural and religious initiatives. He cited projects such as the Ram Mandir, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and the Mahakal Corridor as examples of development undertaken elsewhere.

Shah also took aim at a mosque project in Murshidabad, referencing the historic Babri Masjid. He alleged that the construction was being carried out by suspended TMC legislator Humayun Kabir with the backing of the Chief Minister.
