"GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati issued its latest weather assessment on Friday which shows that Northeast India including Assam currently has dry weather conditions but will experience changing weather patterns which will bring rain and thunderstorms. Advertisment According to the IMD"s daily weather report released on March 6, 2026, showed dry weather conditions throughout northeastern states for the previous 24 hours which included Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The entire region experienced a period without any recorded rainfall. The weather conditions in various regions have shown an upward trend during this time. The state of Manipur experienced a significant rise in daytime temperatures whereas other states showed minimal variations. The temperature throughout Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur remained above the normal range.Advertisment The two states of Nagaland and Tripura experienced a substantial nighttime temperature increase which brought their temperatures to levels that were well above the normal range found in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland and Tripura. Meteorologists have determined that the current weather situation results from an upper-air cyclonic circulation that continues to operate over Bangladesh and its neighboring regions. The weather systems will bring changing patterns to Northeast India which will lead to changes in local weather conditions during the next several days. For Assam and neighbouring states, the IMD forecast suggests that the prevailing dry conditions will largely continue in the immediate term. The region will experience dry weather during the initial two days of the forecast period with maximum temperatures remaining stable throughout this time.Advertisment The weather patterns will begin to shift on the third day after today. The region will start receiving its first light rainfall which will fall on different areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to mark the beginning of moisture accumulation in the area. The fourth day will see light rain spread to new territories which will include Meghalaya and Nagaland. The weather forecast predicts a temperature decline that will see maximum temperatures drop between three and five degrees Celsius. The weather will undergo its most significant transformation between the fifth day when multiple regions in Assam will experience light to moderate rainfall while nearby states like Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya and Nagaland and Manipur will receive light rainfall. The temperature will experience a drop between three to five degrees Celsius which will provide relief from the present excessive daytime warmth. The IMD has also issued thunderstorm and lightning alerts beginning from the third day of the forecast period. The first day of thunderstorms will begin over Arunachal Pradesh before they spread to Assam and Meghalaya on the fourth day of the month. Thunderstorms and lightning will begin to affect different locations throughout the Northeast on the fifth day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle near 17 degrees Celsius. The forecast indicates that Northeast India will experience dry weather during the upcoming days but unstable weather patterns will emerge which will bring rainstorms and significant temperature reductions throughout various areas of the region.
