Congress neglected Northeast, portrayed it as troubled region: Sonowal slams opposition

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has accused the Congress government of neglecting Northeast India and portraying it as a troubled region. Addressing a press conference, Sonowal said that the region is now witnessing a new era of progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sonowal highlighted the central government's efforts to develop the Northeast, stating that union ministers frequently visit the region to implement various schemes. "Peace is returning to Northeast India," he added.

The minister also pointed out that Prime Minister Modi has visited the Northeast over 70 times, demonstrating the government's commitment to the region's development. Sonowal also mentioned that India now has 20 national waterways, with ongoing work to develop water transportation.

On tribal welfare, Sonowal said the central government is taking positive steps. He expressed confidence that the BJP-led alliance will return to power in Assam, citing the people's trust in Prime Minister Modi.

Sonowal's comments come ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections, with the BJP looking to retain power in the state. The minister's remarks underscore the government's focus on Northeast India and its efforts to address the region's development challenges.
