The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the GSAT-7R (CMS-03) communication satellite today, November 2, 2025, at 5:26 PM IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. This satellite is India's heaviest communication satellite, weighing approximately 4,410 kg, and will provide robust telecommunication coverage across the Indian Ocean Region.

The GSAT-7R satellite is designed to strengthen the Indian Navy's space-based communications and maritime domain awareness capabilities. It has been indigenously developed with state-of-the-art components to meet the Navy's operational requirements. The satellite will provide high-capacity bandwidth for seamless and secure communication links between ships, aircraft, submarines, and Maritime Operations Centres of the Indian Navy.

The satellite will be launched using the LVM3-M5 rocket, India's heaviest launch vehicle with a successful track record, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The launch event will be live telecast on ISRO's official website and social media handle from 4:56 PM onwards.

Once launched, GSAT-7R will replace the existing GSAT-7 and provide secure real-time links between Indian warships, submarines, aircraft, and shore-based command centers across the Indian Ocean. The satellite assembly and integration with the launch vehicle have been completed, and the 24-hour countdown began on November 1.
