The emphatic victory handed India a 2–1 lead in the five-match series and reaffirmed their depth and adaptability in challenging conditions.

Opting to bowl first, India’s attack produced a collective bowling masterclass. All six bowlers used on the night claimed at least one wicket, leaving South Africa reeling early and unable to recover. Arshdeep Singh led the charge with two crucial wickets, well supported by Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav, who also picked up two apiece. Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya chipped in with one wicket each, completing a disciplined bowling effort that never allowed the visitors to build momentum.

South Africa found themselves in deep trouble inside the powerplay, losing wickets in quick succession. Captain Aiden Markram attempted to anchor the innings but struggled to counter India’s relentless pressure.

Reflecting on the defeat, Markram said:

“Tough conditions early on, India bowled well and took control. We were 5–6 down before we knew it, credit to them. We need to find a way to put pressure back, especially if conditions are similar. I tried to bat and take it deep, but it was tough. We won’t dwell on it, we’ll look to find answers.”

In reply, India came out with clear intent. Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a brisk 35 at the top, attacking the South African bowlers and ensuring there was no early pressure in the chase. His aggressive approach laid the foundation for a smooth run chase, with Shubman Gill and Tilak Varma calmly steering India home.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the team’s response after earlier setbacks in the series, highlighting the importance of simplicity and clarity.

“This sport teaches you a lot. How you come back is important. We went back to basics, did what worked in Cuttack. We had a good team meeting and stuck to our plan. Basics are very important, and we’re focusing on that. I’m batting well in the nets, runs will come when they have to.”

The night also marked a personal milestone for Hardik Pandya, who became the third Indian bowler to reach 100 wickets in T20 Internationals, adding another highlight to India’s comprehensive win.

Player of the Match Arshdeep Singh, who spearheaded the bowling effort, credited discipline and trust in his skills for his successful outing.

“I stuck to the basics and did things right, trusting my skills. Playing at this level, you have off days, but it feels nice to bounce back. I told people this isn’t my home ground, which gave me an edge. Credit to the team, we worked hard, and it paid off.”

With momentum firmly on their side, India will look to build on this commanding performance as the series moves forward, while South Africa face the challenge of regrouping quickly to stay alive in the contest.
