The four, who have represented Assam at different levels in the past, are accused of attempting to influence and instigate members of the current Assam squad during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, held in Lucknow between November 26 and December 8. The allegations triggered alarm within the cricketing establishment, prompting swift action from both state and national authorities.

Following the emergence of the complaints, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted a preliminary enquiry into the matter. Based on the findings, the ACA said there is prima facie evidence suggesting the involvement of the four players in serious misconduct that strikes at the very integrity of the sport.

Taking a zero-tolerance stance, the Assam Cricket Association has not only imposed an immediate suspension on the accused players but has also initiated criminal proceedings. An FIR was lodged at the Crime Branch in Guwahati on Friday, December 12, marking a significant escalation in the case.

“The suspension has been enforced to prevent any further deterioration of the situation and to protect the sanctity of the game,” the ACA said in a strongly worded statement, underlining its resolve to act firmly against any form of corruption.

During the suspension period, the players have been barred from participating in any cricket activity under the Assam Cricket Association, including state-level tournaments, district matches or games conducted by affiliated clubs. They are also prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related roles such as coaching, officiating, or umpiring.

The suspension will remain in force until the conclusion of the investigation or until further orders are issued by the association. All district associations have been directed to strictly enforce the ban and ensure that clubs and cricket academies under their jurisdiction comply with the order.

Reiterating its commitment to clean sport, the Assam Cricket Association stated that it will continue to uphold the highest standards of transparency, discipline and ethical conduct, sending out a clear message that corruption in any form will not be tolerated in Assam cricket.

The statement was issued by ACA Secretary Sanatan Das.
