Addressing the media, the Chief Minister narrated an anecdote to underline what he described as the “condition” of the party.

“Yesterday at a hotel in Nagaon, an order for 60 plates of rice was placed. For the leaders, 30 plates of chicken rice were ordered, and for booth-level workers, 30 plates of veg rice,” he said.

He added, “You can check the hotel at the Nagaon bypass. This is the condition of Congress today. It is very painful to watch. I too was once in Congress. The party has fallen so low.”

Taking a further dig at the yatra, Sarma said, “They are travelling in a bus. There are no people behind them, none ahead of them. Nobody to chant ‘Zindabad’. No one to welcome them. Just about 10 people travelling in a bus as if they are having a picnic.”

The Chief Minister also made a remark about one of the leaders in the yatra. “There is a leader in the bus who eats three kilos of mutton every single day. He starts his breakfast with mutton and pulao. He eats another type of meat as well, which I don’t want to talk about,” he said.

The Congress has yet to issue an official response to the Chief Minister’s remarks.
