"Educated unemployed youths have once again fallen prey to a job scam, with fraudsters posing as officials of the National Health Mission (NHM) allegedly cheating several job seekers of lakhs of rupees. The Crime Branch has arrested the prime accused, who was impersonating an NHM official, in connection with the case.Advertisment According to official sources, the accused was apprehended from the Kahilipara area of Guwahati. He is accused of collecting large sums of money from multiple unemployed youths by promising them jobs under the NHM. The matter came to light after the Crime Branch received a First Information Report (FIR) from a young woman on December 10. In her complaint, she alleged that the accused demanded money in exchange for providing her a job as an NHM laboratory technician. Following the complaint, the Crime Branch launched an investigation, which eventually led to the arrest. Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused had been operating a fraud racket and had allegedly siphoned off lakhs of rupees from several victims using similar promises of employment. The police believe more victims may come forward as the investigation progresses. A case has been registered as Case No. 18/25, and Sections 61(1), 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been invoked against the accused. The Crime Branch has urged job seekers to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of recruitment processes, especially when demands for money are made in the name of government jobs.
