GMC Rolls Out QR-Enabled House Number Plates, Offering Multiple Services at a Single Scan

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a citywide initiative to install new, technology-enabled house number plates aimed at improving civic service delivery and emergency response systems.

The drive to affix the new house number plates has begun from Ward No. 29, marking the beginning of what officials describe as a major step toward smart urban governance.

The project was formally inaugurated by Mayor Mrigen Sarania in the presence of GMC Commissioner Chinmoy Prakash Phukan. Addressing the gathering, officials highlighted that the initiative is designed to enhance accessibility to municipal services and strengthen the city’s emergency response network.

The newly introduced house number plates are embedded with QR codes that residents can scan to directly access a range of GMC services. 

• Residents can scan the code to directly connect with essential emergency services such as fire and ambulance support.
• The QR system provides detailed information related to holding numbers.
• Citizens can check waste collection schedules and other municipal arrangements through the platform.
• The digital interface also allows residents to lodge complaints and access various civic service details conveniently.

The implementation work has been entrusted to a private firm, Geo Vista, which is overseeing the installation of the new number plates across the city.

According to GMC officials, the first phase of the project covers 38 wards and approximately 4.8 lakh households. Authorities believe the initiative will streamline service delivery, improve transparency, and contribute to building a more digitally connected Guwahati.
