The incident took place at Paschim Belguri Primary School, where the headmaster was found hanging inside a classroom. The deceased has been identified as Sadhan Barman, who was serving as the headmaster of the school.

According to sources, Barman left behind a handwritten note before taking the extreme step, in which he blamed a person named Dulu Medhi for driving him to suicide through mental harassment.

The note states that Barman had borrowed ₹1 lakh from Medhi to meet expenses related to his father’s cancer treatment and two surgeries undergone by his wife. At the time of taking the loan, he had reportedly handed over a blank cheque to Medhi.

However, Medhi allegedly claimed that the loan amount was ₹5.30 lakh instead of ₹1 lakh and subsequently lodged an FIR with the police. Acting on the complaint, police personnel visited Barman’s residence for questioning.

Family members and locals allege that the humiliation caused by the police inquiry deeply affected the headmaster, ultimately leading him to take the extreme step. The suicide note further mentions that Barman had already repaid ₹40,000 of the borrowed amount.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage in the area. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), along with local residents, has strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict legal action against Dulu Medhi, accusing him of exploiting the teacher and driving him to death.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and further action is awaited.
