Raijor Dal on Wednesday announced its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, a day after the Assam Congress released its own list of nominees.

The list was unveiled at a press conference by the party’s Working President, Bhasko D. Saikia. With this declaration, Raijor Dal has formally entered the electoral fray.

  • The candidates named in the first phase are:
  • Abdur Rashid Mondal from East Goalpara
  • Ramen Chandra Borthakur from Jalukbari
  • Anjan Talukdar from Manas
  • Azizur Rahman from Dalgaon
  • Mehboob Mukhtar from Dhing
  • Alok Nath from Tezpur
  • Dulal Chandra Baruah from Sissiborgaon
  • Rahul Chettri from Margherita
  • Lakshyajyoti Gogoi from Digboi
  • Gyanashree Bora from Moriani
  • Ratan Dao from Bokakhat

Significantly, Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi expressed disappointment over the Congress’ move. In a post on his official Facebook account, Gogoi stated that he was unhappy with the way the Congress released its candidate list, hinting at differences between the parties ahead of the elections.

Political observers see the development as an indication of emerging tensions within the opposition space in Assam, even as parties gear up for a high-stakes Assembly battle.
