Rajdhani Express derailment after elephant hit triggers cancellation of multiple trains across Assam

Due to the derailment of the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express in Assam, several trains scheduled for December 20, 2025, have been cancelled, short-terminated, short-originated, or regulated

Railway services in Assam were severely disrupted on Saturday following the derailment of the Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express after it struck elephants in the Jamunamukh–Kampur section under the Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Train No. 20507 DN Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed while running on the down line in the Lumding–Guwahati section, affecting rail movement across the busy corridor. Soon after the incident, the General Manager of NFR along with senior railway officials rushed to the spot to oversee restoration work, which is currently underway.

In view of the derailment, several trains scheduled for December 20, 2025, have been cancelled, short-terminated, short-originated, or regulated to ensure passenger safety and facilitate track restoration.

Short Termination and Origination

Train No. 15769 Alipurduar–Mariani Express has been short-terminated at Digaru and cancelled between Digaru and Mariani.

Train No. 15770 Mariani–Alipurduar Express has been short-originated from Digaru and cancelled between Mariani and Digaru.

Railway authorities have advised passengers to check the latest train status before commencing their journeys. NFR officials stated that all efforts are being made to restore normal train operations at the earliest, while ensuring the safety of passengers and wildlife in the elephant corridor area.
