Rajib Sadiya’s Wife Offered Government Job; Expresses Gratitude to Himanta Biswa Sarma

Upasana Gogoi, wife of the late folk artist Rajib Sadiya, has been appointed to a government position as a Grade-III employee following a decision by the state cabinet. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, bringing relief to the bereaved family more than a year after the singer’s untimely demise.

Reacting to the development, Upasana said she learned about the appointment through television and described the moment as one of immense relief and happiness.

“I heard the news on TV that I will be given a Grade-III government job. I feel very relieved and happy hearing it. Last year, on January 13, he left us. It was very difficult for me to manage everything, as I have a son and my husband was the sole earning member of our family. Providing for my son’s education and managing all household expenses was extremely challenging. Now that I know I am being offered a job, I feel extremely happy and relieved. I extend my gratitude to the Chief Minister,” she told reporters.

Rajib Sadiya, regarded as a soulful voice in the Assamese music fraternity, passed away on January 13, 2025, while undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

The tragedy struck suddenly a day earlier during a live performance at Phillobari in Tinsukia district on January 12, 2025. In a shocking turn of events, the singer collapsed on stage in the middle of his set, leaving the audience stunned. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors later detected multiple critical health complications. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed the following day.

Sadiya’s passing left a deep void in Assam’s music community and pushed his family into financial uncertainty, as he had been the sole breadwinner. The state government’s decision to provide employment to his widow has been viewed as a supportive measure aimed at securing the family’s future.
