Hussain, a senior Congress leader and former five-term MLA from Samaguri, alleged that the BJP is engaging in “vote rigging” through the Special Revision (SR) process of electoral rolls, claiming the exercise is being manipulated to influence outcomes in favour of the ruling party. He further accused state authorities of harassing individuals who oppose the BJP, and said that the administration is ignoring genuine grievances raised by citizens.

“The people’s voices are not being heard,” Hussain said, asserting that Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma has failed to give due importance to the complaints filed by citizens and opposition workers,” adding that he intends to escalate the matter to the Congress high command.

Hussain also highlighted alleged irregularities in Golakganj and Bilasipara areas of Dhubri district, areas that have seen intense political competition. He claimed that these are among the locations where the SR process and related administrative actions have been most problematic.

Rakibul Hussain further urged all ration card holders to complete their KYC formalities as early as possible, saying this would help safeguard their voting rights and prevent disenfranchisement.

Political crossfire: Rocky vs Akhil

Reacting to Akhil Gogoi’s recent claim that he is the Congress party’s brand ambassador and star campaigner, Rakibul Hussain said it is unwise to discuss alliance-related matters in public. He added that he would raise the issue with the party high command.

Gogoi, known for his outspoken criticism of the BJP and the state government, recently asserted a “no-compromise” stance on key constituencies including Dhing —causing a point of disappointment for Hussain.

Gogoi, a vocal critic of Chief Minister Sarma who has repeatedly challenged him to political face-offs, has also been at the center of recent Assembly tensions.
