Barooah Cancer Hospital for the past two years. According to family members, she had been under severe mental pressure after receiving an email on January 10 informing her of her termination from service. They alleged that neither Sonia nor her guardians were informed about the reasons behind the suspension.“The hospital never informed us about what mistake our daughter had committed. If there was any issue, they should have informed us, her parents. Instead, they simply sent a termination letter through email,” a family member said while speaking to the media.It has been reported that five employees received similar termination emails. Family members further stated that the terminated staff were not directly involved in handling patients, leaving little scope for serious professional misconduct.The family also raised suspicions over the circumstances surrounding Sonia’s death. “She was under immense pressure. It is possible that she was killed and the incident was made to look like a suicide. We demand justice and a proper investigation,” the family alleged.Meanwhile, one of the terminated employees revealed to the media that in November, a patient named Khairul Islam had lodged a complaint stating that the hospital’s management was not satisfactory. The employee claimed that the hospital authorities allegedly blamed them for the complaint and subsequently terminated their services.According to the same source, when the family approached the hospital authorities seeking clarification, they were asked to contact the hospital in-charge, who reportedly did not respond to their calls. Later, they attempted to reach the hospital director.During this time, Sonia reportedly told them she needed to change clothes and went into the dressing room. After she failed to respond to repeated phone calls for a long time, the door was forcibly opened, and Sonia was found lifeless inside.The employee further stated that Sonia had joined the hospital in December 2023.Police have been informed, and further investigation is expected as demands grow for accountability and transparency from the hospital authorities.
